Instructions for Use
Analytical Method Indophenol Method: In strongly alkaline solution (pH = 13) ammonia reacts with chlorine forming monochloramine. Monochloramine then reacts with salicylate to form an indophenol derivative, which is an intensely coloured blue dye. The intensity of the colour is related to the ammonium concentration.
Number of Tests ca. 80
Interferences This test is suitable for testing freshwater. In hard water (total hardness >200 mg/L) a turbidity will form. For these cases and for seawater applications a complexing agent is available which keeps magnesium and calcium ions in solution (included in the Ammonium IND+ test). The test measures total ammonia/ammonium.
Measuring Range The standard measuring range is 0 – 2 mg/L. The colour comparator has 6 colour fields: 0–0.1–0.2–0.5–1–2 mg/L. For higher ammonium concentrations, the sample has to be diluted. A 1:4 sample dilution can be carried out easily, thus extending the measuring range to 8 mg/L.
Shelf Life 2 years
Applications Determination and monitoring of ammonia/ammonium in waste water and aquaculture.
