Instructions for Use
Analytical Method Methylene Blue: Hydrogen sulphide reacts with N,N-dimethylphenylene diamine forming colourless leuco-methylene blue, which is oxidised by Fey3+ ions to form intensely coloured methylene blue. The intensity of that colour is proportional to the concentration of sulphide in the water sample.
Number of Tests ca. 80
Interferences The methylene blue test method is highly specific to sulphide, and suitable for testing fresh- and seawater. Strong reducing agents interfere by preventing formation of the blue colour, so does thiosulphate >10 mg/L. Ferrocyanide produces a blue colour. Very high levels of sulphide (several hundred mg/L) inhibit colour formation.
Measuring Range The standard measuring range is 0 – 2 mg/L. The colour comparator has 6 colour fields: 0–0.1–0.2–0.5–1–2 mg/L. For higher sulphide concentrations, the sample has to be diluted. A 1:4 sample dilution can be carried out easily, thus extending the measuring range to 8 mg/L.
Shelf Life 2 years
Applications Determination of sulphide levels in bore water and waste water.
